Italian-born American actor George Humbert, born Umberto Gianni on July 29, 1880, embarked on a remarkable career spanning over three decades, featuring more than 100 film appearances between 1918 and the 1950s.
Prior to his successful acting career, Humbert began his journey in the United States as a steerage passenger on the Italian steamer Sannio, which departed from Genoa, Italy in June 1907 and arrived at the Port of New York, where he was subsequently examined by the U.S. immigration service on Ellis Island.
After undergoing the immigration process, Humbert was granted legal entry into the United States, paving the way for his future endeavors. He went on to become a naturalized United States citizen in 1933, solidifying his connection to the country that would become his adopted home.
