Teresa Lorenzo, a kind-hearted restaurateur in Little Italy, has a way of bringing people together. She took in her son Joe's friend Nick, an orphan, and gave him a second chance at life. Meanwhile, Joe, who was given a chance by Judge Davis, has continued down a criminal path. Joe has been in prison for three years, but has maintained the illusion of working at an orange orchard by having friends send letters and money to his mother. Joe's release coincides with Nick's graduation, and he convinces his girlfriend Laurie to join him in New York for the ceremony. However, Joe's true motives are to seek revenge on former associates who double-crossed him.
