Irene Vivian Coe, professionally known as Vivian Austin, was an American actress who left an indelible mark on the film industry during the late 1930s and early 1940s, although her extensive repertoire primarily consisted of B-movies.
Born in the vibrant city of Hollywood, California, Austin attended the prestigious Hollywood High School, where she cultivated her passion for the performing arts. Her talent and dedication earned her the esteemed title of Miss Hollywood in 1939.
Before being cast as the female lead in The Adventures of Red Ryder, Austin worked tirelessly in various bit parts, doubling as an extra and stunt performer in numerous films. Her hard work and perseverance eventually led to her being signed to a stock contract with Universal in 1943.
Under her pseudonym Vivian Austin (for Universal) or Terry Austin (for Eagle-Lion Films),she appeared in a range of movies, including Destiny, Trigger Trail, Born To Speed, and Philo Vance Returns. Regrettably, her illustrious career was tragically cut short in the late 1940s due to kidney failure and subsequent blindness.
On August 1, 2004, Austin succumbed to natural causes at a Los Angeles hospital, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire and entertain. Due to her husband's military service in the United States Army, the couple was laid to rest at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California, a testament to the enduring impact of their lives.
