Roy Del Ruth, a renowned Hollywood film director, was born on October 18, 1893. He initially started his career as a screenwriter in 1915, penning gags for the prominent film director Mack Sennett. Del Ruth's transition to directing feature films in the 1920s marked the beginning of his illustrious career.
Throughout his career, Del Ruth became recognized for his exceptional work in directing urban and crime dramas. His notable credits include the 1931 version of The Maltese Falcon, a classic film noir. Additionally, he directed the infamous The Babe Ruth Story in 1948, which received widespread criticism, as well as the 20th Century Fox B-movie Alligator People in 1959.
Sadly, Roy Del Ruth passed away on April 27, 1961, at the age of 67. He was laid to rest in the San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills, Los Angeles, California.
In recognition of his significant contributions to the motion picture industry, Del Ruth was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, located at 6150 Hollywood Blvd.
