Ronald Boyd DeVoe Jr., also known as Ronnie, RBDJr, RD, Ronnie D, and Big Ron, is a renowned musician and entrepreneur, best recognized as one of the talented members of the R&B/pop group New Edition and the R&B/hip hop group Bell Biv DeVoe.
Born on November 17, 1967, DeVoe joined New Edition in the early 1980s, following his uncle's recommendation, and quickly rose to fame alongside the group. In 1981, New Edition took second place at a talent show, which caught the attention of record producer Maurice Starr, who signed them to his Streetwise record label.
Throughout the late 1980s, New Edition became the biggest-selling boy band, with DeVoe being an integral part of the group's success. After the group disbanded in 1990, DeVoe, along with fellow New Edition members Ricky Bell and Michael Bivins, formed Bell Biv DeVoe, an R&B/hip-hop group that released their debut album Poison in 1990.
Poison was a massive commercial success, selling more than 5 million copies and spawning five hit singles, including "Poison" and "B.B.D. (I Thought It Was Me)?". Over the years, Bell Biv DeVoe has released four albums, with DeVoe continuing to perform and record with the group as well as New Edition.
In addition to his music career, DeVoe has also ventured into television, appearing as a guest member on Bravo's reality series The Real Housewives of Atlanta. His wife, Shamari, a former member of the 90's singing group Blaque, joined the show as a regular cast member during Season 11.
DeVoe is also a successful entrepreneur, co-owning DeVoe Broker Associates, a real estate agency in Atlanta, Georgia.
