Holt McCallany, born Holt Quinn McAloney on September 3, 1963, is a multifaceted American artist with a career spanning over four decades.
His journey in the entertainment industry began as an apprentice actor at the prestigious Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was part of a notable apprenticeship program that once featured Tom Hanks and other prominent figures.
After gaining experience in the professional theater, McCallany returned to New York City and secured an understudy role in the Broadway production of Biloxi Blues.
He then transitioned to film and television, landing supporting parts in notable movies such as Casualties of War, Alien 3, Creepshow 2, The Search for One-eye Jimmy, Jade, and Rough Riders, a TV miniseries.
McCallany's portrayal of Teddy Atlas in the HBO telefilm Tyson earned him a spot as a supporter of the Atlas Foundation Charity, a grassroots organization dedicated to helping children and families with medical and financial hardships.
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, he continued to work in films and television, appearing in a wide range of projects, including Fight Club, Three Kings, Men of Honor, Below, and many others.
He also made notable appearances in television shows such as CSI: Miami and Criminal Minds, playing characters with complex psychological profiles.
In 2010, McCallany starred in the Warner Bros. film The Losers, based on the DC Comics graphic novel, and then took on the lead role in the FX television series Lights Out, playing an aging boxer struggling with pugilistic dementia.
Following Lights Out, he appeared in films like Sully, Shot Caller, and Blackhat, solidifying his versatility as an actor.
Since 2017, McCallany has co-starred in the Netflix series Mindhunter, playing FBI agent Bill Tench, who researches serial killers in the late 1970s.
Additionally, he is set to release his first French-language film, an adaptation of George Feydeau's comedy Le Dindon, in September 2019.
