Ed Perkins is a Grierson award-winning documentary filmmaker residing in London and operating under the banner of Stroma Films Limited.
In 2015, he was recognized as a BAFTA Breakthrough Brit, a prestigious honor acknowledging his outstanding work in the field.
Throughout his career, Ed has directed, filmed, and edited for a diverse range of prominent organizations, including National Geographic, BBC, Channel 4, The New Yorker, Stateless Media, Vanity Fair, The Guardian, and Focus Features.
Prior to establishing himself as a renowned filmmaker, Ed graduated from the University of North Carolina in 2009 as a Morehead-Cain scholar, where his student documentary 'For God's Sake' garnered significant recognition, including the 'Best in Show' award at the Carolina Film Festival and the 'Eva Marie Saint-Jeffrey Hayden Humanitas Award'.
Following his academic achievements, Ed went on to develop and direct a series of TV documentaries for National Geographic Channel, as well as direct behind-the-scenes documentaries for notable films such as 'Project Nim', 'The Eagle', the BAFTA-winning 'The Imposter', and the Academy Award-winning 'Searching for Sugar Man'.
Two of Ed's short films have received accolades from Vimeo, including "Short of the Week" and "Staff Pick" awards, and his film 'If I Die on Mars' was prominently featured on the front page of The Guardian website, boasting over 1,000,000 views across various platforms.
In 2015, Ed completed directing his first feature documentary, 'Garnet's Gold', which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2014, won a Grierson Award for Best Newcomer, received the Best International Documentary award at both Docville and Jozi Film Festival, and was nominated for Best Documentary Feature at both Tribeca and the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
