Clyde Fillmore, a renowned actor, was born Clyde Fogle on October 25, 1876, in McConnelsville, Ohio, USA. He was the son of Millard Fillmore Fogel, born in 1853, and Peninah H. "Nina" Hammond, born in 1849, in Morgan County, Ohio. His maternal grandparents were Hannah (Scott) and James C. Hammond, with great grandparents Ursula (Barnett) and John Gore Hammond, early settlers of Morgan County, who migrated from Maryland to Virginia and eventually to Ohio.
Clyde Fillmore married Lea Penman in 1924, and together they discovered Marjorie Lord, a teenage student at the school where they taught acting in New York City. As a dapper silent screen character actor, Fillmore often played roguish roles. He began his career at Paramount in the 1920s and later rejoined the studio in the 1940s as a supporting player. During the intervening years, Fillmore had a busy career on Broadway, playing men of means or influence.
Throughout his career, Fillmore appeared in notable films such as The More the Merrier (1943),Watch on the Rhine (1943),and The Shanghai Gesture (1941). He passed away on December 19, 1946, in Santa Monica, California, USA.
