Argyris Papadimitropoulos was born in the same year that the Ramones released their legendary debut album, which might have somewhat influenced his punk-like temperament.
Following the success of his two multi-awarded shorts, Pendulum (2003) and Tender (2004),both of which received a Berlinale Talent Campus stamp, Argyris went on to become the youngest Greek filmmaker to direct a box-office feature hit. His film, Bank Bang, released in 2008, achieved significant commercial and critical success, garnering 500,000 box office admissions and rave reviews. The film also earned the First Time Director Award from the Hellenic Film Academy.
Argyris's subsequent film, Wasted Youth, premiered at the 40th Rotterdam International Film Festival in 2011 and has since been showcased at over 40 film festivals worldwide, including Toronto, BAFICI, Karlovy Vary, Munich, and many others. His latest film, Suntan, premiered at the Rotterdam Film Festival and SXSW's Narrative Spotlight in 2016. The film went on to win the Best Film Award at the Edinburgh Film Festival, the Youth Jury Award at Brussels, and received a nomination for the Lux Prize of the European Parliament. Suntan is set to be released in the US, France, Australia, the UK, and Korea, among many other countries, through Visit Films.
In addition to his feature film work, Argyris has directed over 200 commercials, solidifying his position as one of Europe's top ad directors. He also frequently wears the producer's hat, presenting award-winning features through his own production company, Oxymoron Films, including the Berlinale sensation At Home (2014).
Interestingly, Argyris has no hobbies outside of filmmaking.
