Mick and Joey Barrett are brothers who enjoy surfing as a hobby but struggle financially, so they offer their services for various tasks. In the first season, they assisted Gordon, a government employee with connections to important individuals, when he needed assistance. Occasionally, the goddaughter of one of his contacts faced trouble or someone from his past required help, leading Mick and Joey to get involved in dangerous adventures. They were reluctant most of the time but ultimately fulfilled their duties. In the second season, they opened a surf shop in Santa Monica where they helped various clients. The third season saw them transitioning to another career when an old friend offered them a job as bail-bondsmen in Ventura. The friend needed Mick and Joey's assistance to find "skips," individuals who had failed their probation or court orders. In the meantime, Mick and Joey were also introduced to a senator's widow, who let them stay at her guest house for free in exchange for occasional help with tasks involving the widower's friends.
