The Harper brothers, Charlie and Alan, form a dynamic duo despite their contrasting personalities. While they share a distaste for their mother, Evelyn, they have little else in common. Alan, a controlling chiropractor, is divorced and forced to support his wife Judith while Charlie, a free-spirited jingle composer, lives a carefree life in a beach house. When Alan's separation forces him to move in with Charlie, their differing lifestyles create comedic conflicts. The show explores their relationships with their son Jake, their mother Evelyn, and other characters, including Charlie's cleaning lady Berta and his stalker neighbor Rose.
