Carlos Acosta, nicknamed Yuli, is a child of Pedro, who sees him as a son of Ogun, an African god and a fighter. Growing up in a poor and abandoned Havana, Yuli learns from the streets, but his father has other plans. He recognizes Yuli's natural talent for dance and sends him to the National Ballet School of Cuba.
