As Christmas Eve snowflakes fall, Ruth's sudden disappearance sends her family into a frantic search. Burt, her husband, frantically calls his son Nick, the police, and others in a desperate bid to locate her. Nick's sister Bridget, with her daughter Emma, flies to Chicago to join the search. Eventually, Ruth is found at a hospital, shaken but unharmed. However, the family realizes that something must be done to ensure her well-being.
