A British woman's love awakens the moral awareness of an Indian arms dealer in a remote region following independence.

In the early years of India's independence from British rule, a pilot named Steve Gibbs arrives in the Ghandahar province, seeking to profit from the region's turmoil. Meanwhile, the pacifist Prime Minister Singh attempts to negotiate a peace agreement with the guerrilla leader Khan, while the local maharajah remains stubborn and out of touch. Amidst the chaos, Steve finds himself drawn to Joan Willoughby, the blind daughter of a parson.
