Frank James, Jesse's brother, has been living a quiet life as a farmer, caring for Clem, the son of a former gang member. When he learns of Jesse's murder by the Ford brothers, he hopes the law will take care of them. However, when he discovers the railroad man who funded Jesse's killing helped the Fords evade punishment, Frank sets out for revenge. Clem joins him, and they concoct a plan to cover their tracks by spreading a rumor that Frank is dead. They meet Eleanor Stone, a reporter, who becomes intrigued by their story and eventually learns Frank's true identity.
