Yair Hochner was born in Kfar Sava, Israel, a city known for its rich cultural heritage and vibrant artistic community.
With the guidance of renowned directors Keren Yedaya and Tomer Heiman, Yair embarked on a journey to bring his script, Good Boys (Yeladim Tovim),to life. This cinematic masterpiece garnered widespread acclaim, earning a plethora of prestigious awards, including the OUTstanding Emerging Talent Award at Outfest (2005),the Showtime Vanguard Award at NewFest, the Jury Grand Prize – Feature Film at the image+nation International LGBT Film Festival in Montreal, and numerous accolades at the Tampa International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, including Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, and Best Cinematography. Additionally, Good Boys took home the prize for Best Israeli Film at the Eilat International Film Festival.
Yair's passion for cinema extended beyond his work as a director. For five years, he taught high school students the art of filmmaking in Netania, instilling in them a love for the medium that would last a lifetime. Currently, he writes film reviews for Seret (Film),Israel's leading cinema site, and has contributed articles to the Cinematheque Magazine, as well as short stories to the Tel Aviv newspaper and Camera Obscura magazine.
As the artistic director of the TLVFest, the Tel Aviv International LGBT Film Festival, which he co-founded in 2006, Yair has been instrumental in promoting and celebrating queer cinema. His second feature, Antarctica, was released in 2007 by Regent Releasing, and in 2008, he co-produced Fucking Different Tel Aviv with Kristian Petersen, which was officially selected for the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival. Throughout his career, Yair has consistently demonstrated his commitment to creating thought-provoking and visually stunning films that resonate with audiences worldwide.
