Vanessa Olivia Renwick, a non-binary artist of Scottish and German heritage, was born on the ancestral lands of the Illiniwek Nation, now known as Chicago, Illinois. Despite being an uninvited guest, they currently reside and work on the traditional territory of the Chinookan peoples, now known as Portland, Oregon.
Renwick's artistic lens is often focused on the natural world, the concept of freedom, and the Pacific Northwest, their adopted home. By incorporating avant-garde formal elements, they explore radical politics and environmental issues. Notably, they often self-distribute their work, which has led to a diverse screening history that spans the globe.
Their cinematic endeavors have been showcased in hundreds of international venues, including renowned institutions such as The Museum of Modern Art, Light Industry, The Wexner Center for the Arts, Art Basel, Oberhausen, The Museum of Jurassic Technology, Centre Pompidou, Bread and Puppet Theater, and True/False Film Festival, among many others.
