Ulrich Wildgruber was a German actor born on November 18, 1937, in Bielefeld. His father was a bookbinding master, and Ulrich was inspired to pursue an acting career since his school days. He began his acting training with private teachers, but his journey was interrupted by various jobs and life's challenges. Despite these setbacks, he remained committed to his goal.
In 1960, Wildgruber was accepted into the prestigious Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna to study acting. However, he left due to controversy. His breakthrough came in 1963 when he debuted at the Vienna Volkstheater in Bertolt Brecht's "Mother Courage and Her Children" under the direction of Gustav Manker.
Wildgruber's collaboration with director Peter Zadek began in 1972 and continued until his death in 1999. During this time, he worked with various theaters in Basel, Heidelberg, Oberhausen, and Stuttgart. In 1971, he also briefly worked with the Berlin Schaubühne under the direction of Peter Stein.
Throughout his career, Wildgruber remained dedicated to his craft, and his work continued to break new ground. He passed away on November 30, 1999, on the island of Sylt.
