Thomas Cunningham was born on June 22, 1964, in Drumchapel, Glasgow, Scotland.
Cunningham's father, Tom Sr., purchased his son's first drum kit in 1977 from the Social Club for £15.
He met Graeme Clark on the school bus, and the two began to write original songs and perfect their songwriting craft.
Cunningham, along with fellow school friends Mark McLachlan and Neil Mitchell, formed Wet Wet Wet.
The band released their first single "Wishing I Was Lucky" and went on to have chart success for 10 years.
Cunningham left the band in 1997 due to a dispute over royalty payments.
The remaining members of the band went on tour in 1998 without him, and after its conclusion, they went their separate ways.
In 2004, the three remaining members of Wet Wet Wet reunited.
Cunningham owned a transport taxi firm in Glasgow but sold it in 2008 to focus on music.
He still owns his local bar, The Village Tavern in Duntocher.
In 2010, Cunningham and Billy Sloan organized a benefit show for their friend Tim Stevens, who was suffering from multiple sclerosis.
The show featured a number of notable acts, including Midge Ure, Jim Diamond, Gerard Kelly, Marti Pellow, and Paulo Nutini.
Cunningham played drums on Jim Diamond's album "City of Soul," which was released in 2011 and benefits the children's charity Radio Clyde Cash For Kids.
Cunningham and the remaining members of Wet Wet Wet continue to perform in arena-sized venues.
He currently presents a weekend show on the Greatest Hits Radio Scotland network.
Cunningham is married to his childhood sweetheart Elaine Gallacher, and they have two children, Tayler and Stephen.
