Thanasis Papageorgiou is a multifaceted Greek artistic force, having established himself as a renowned director and actor within the realm of theater and film. With an illustrious career spanning over five decades, he has amassed an impressive body of work, having staged approximately 130 plays and currently in his 53rd theatrical season.
Born on February 16, 1938, in Kaisariani, Papageorgiou began his journey in the world of theater by studying at the Drama School of Christos Vachliotis. His first theatrical appearance took place in 1962, as part of the troupe led by K. Livadeas. Throughout the 1960s, he collaborated with various troupes, including those of V. Diamantopoulou-M. Alkaiou, Titou Vandis, Mirandas-Barkoulis, United Artists, Eleftheras Skenis, and others.
However, Papageorgiou's creative pursuits soon expanded beyond the realm of theater. In 1968, he made his directorial debut with the film "Epi eschatis prodossia". This marked the beginning of his work in cinema, where he has continued to make significant contributions as a director, screenwriter, and actor.
In television, Papageorgiou has directed numerous plays for the Monday Theater, and has also collaborated with Paul Slave on the series "Madame Soussou". He has also appeared in various television series, including "The Lottery", "Mikres adgieli", "Mikori magolii", and "13th box". Furthermore, he has directed and performed in stand-alone children's films and adaptations of plays by the Lodge.
In recent years, Papageorgiou has continued to excel in his craft, starring in films such as Elina Psykou's "Son of Sophia" (2015),for which he received the Best Actor award from the Hellenic Cinema Academy. He has also appeared in Zacharias Mavroides' film "The retired" (2018) and has made friendly participations in films by Tsberopoulos and Perakis, including "Sudden Love", "Goodbye", "Life and Politics".
