Sotiris Goritsas, a renowned Greek director, hails from Athens, born in 1955. His educational background comprises a degree in economics from the Athens School of Economics and Business (ASOEE),now known as the University of Economics. Additionally, he pursued his passion for cinema at the prestigious London International Film School (LIFS) in London.
Between 1985 and 1988, Goritsas directed an impressive array of over 25 documentaries for ET1, which were broadcast on ERT in Northern Greece and Periscope. Concurrently, he honed his skills in the advertising industry. His films have garnered widespread recognition, being showcased at numerous international competitive festivals, including the esteemed events in Cannes, Tokyo, Montreal, Chicago, Amiens, and Cairo, where they have received accolades for script and direction.
Goritsas's first medium-length film, Despina, earned the top honor at the Thes/kis festival in 1990. His subsequent major film, From the Snow, won the coveted Golden Alexander at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival in 1993 and accumulated a plethora of awards at international festivals.
The director's 1997 film, Balkanizer, marked a significant commercial success, signaling the resurgence of public interest in Greek cinema. His 2011 film, From the Bones, took home the top prize at the Los Angeles festival and received recognition from the Hellenic Film Academy (E.A.K) for its actors and editing.
