Biography

Sofía Garza was born in the city of Monterrey, situated in the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo León. As a young individual, she began performing in school musical theater plays at the tender age of 15, showcasing her talents as both a singer and composer in various music festivals. During her high school years, Sofia embarked on a cultural exchange program, traveling to France and Portugal, where she shared her passion for Mexican folklore music through singing and dancing.

Her experience in the entertainment industry continued to flourish, as Sofia participated in the inaugural season of the popular reality television show Latin American Idol in 2006, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Simultaneously, she pursued a Bachelor's degree in Communication and Advertising at the prestigious Tec de Monterrey (ITESM),while working with the renowned local production company Teló 77 on several professional musical theater productions.

Sofía's most notable roles during this period included starring as Mimi in the production of "Rent" and Ariel in "Footloose", both of which were major shows in the local theater scene. After completing her degree, she made her television debut in 2010, appearing in six episodes of the show Morir en Martes.

In 2011, Sofia landed the lead antagonist role in the comedy play "Cursi", written and directed by local playwright Luis Guerrero. The following year, she lent her voice and lyrics to a song composed by José Antonio 'Potro' Farías for the soundtrack of the Mexican film Me Late Chocolate, which was released in 2013.

Sofía's breakthrough in the national musical theater scene came in 2012, when she was chosen to alternate in the leading role of the original musical play "Si nos dejan", written and directed by renowned Mexican playwright José Manuel López Velarde and produced by OCESA. The show ran for two years, with Sofia performing in over 600 shows, and also toured in Colombia in 2013 and 2014.

In addition to her work in the theater, Sofia had a small role in the television series "Arrepentidos", produced by Fox Latin America and distributed by Nat Geo in Bogota, Colombia, in 2013. She also formalized her acting studies at the Mexican performance school CasAzul Argos in 2014, where she continued to hone her acting and singing skills.

Sofía's television experience expanded in 2012, when she participated in the reality television series Soy tu doble, both as a performer and a participant, produced and transmitted by TV Azteca in Mexico and Azteca America in the United States. By 2015, she landed a role in the major television series Sense8, written and directed by Lilly Wachowski and Lana Wachowski, and co-directed by James McTeigue. The show is produced by Georgeville Television and distributed worldwide by Netflix.

In 2016, Sofia began headlining the music show "Myst" in Mexico City, directed by Academy Award Nominee Felipe Fernández del Paso. She also appeared in the television show "Paquita la del Barrio" for Sony Pictures Television Latinamerica in early 2017.
