Shiboprosad Mukherjee is a multifaceted Indian filmmaker, actor, and screenwriter who has made a significant impact in the Bengali film industry. Alongside director Nandita Roy, he forms one of the few director duos in Bengali cinema to have achieved both critical and commercial success with their debut film Icche in 2011.
The director duo is renowned for creating socially relevant and entertaining films that have garnered both critical acclaim and commercial success. Some of their notable films include Icche, Muktodhara, Accident, Alik Sukh, and Ramdhanu, all of which have been well-received by audiences and critics alike. Shiboprosad is also a partner at Windows Productions, a production company he co-founded with Nandita Roy.
Born on May 20, 1974, in Baranagar, Kolkata, Shiboprosad Mukherjee began his journey in the world of theatre and acting. He attended the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram and later pursued his high school education from Hindu School. He then graduated with a degree in Political Science Honours from Jadavpur University.
After completing his high school education, Shiboprosad joined a theatre group as a trainer and was part of the T.I.E. Project (Theater in Education) under the guidance of Rudra Prasad Sengupta. He also attended a workshop conducted by Ibrahim Alkazi and worked as a freelance journalist for the film magazine Anandalok, guided by Rituporno Ghosh.
Shiboprosad's acting career began with television serials like Ekushe Pa, Ghoom Nei, and Janmabhoomi, and he received his first acting career break in the year 1995 in the serial "Ekushe Pa" directed by Raja Dasgupta for Zee Bangla.
He was associated with ETV Bangla, a 24-hour regional satellite channel of Eenadu Group, right from its inception, where he was responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and producing 6 hours of original programming daily. As a senior programming associate at ETV Bangla from 1999 to 2002, he designed more than 50 non-fiction shows for Bengali television and conceptualized the first Bengali women's magazine programmes on television, 'Sreemoti'.
Shiboprosad also launched the first reality show format in Bengali television, Ritur Mela Jhoom Tara Ra Ra, as a director and producer, working with all leading channels in West Bengal and Bangladesh. He has designed more than 10,000 hours of television programming throughout his career.
In addition to his work in television, Shiboprosad co-founded Windows Productions with Nandita Roy, producing numerous non-fiction and fiction programs.
