Sabu Cyril is a renowned Indian film art director, having garnered widespread recognition and accolades for his exceptional work in the industry.
Born in Kerala, Sabu completed his schooling in his hometown before pursuing higher education at the Government College of Fine Arts, Chennai, formerly known as the Government School of Arts and Crafts, Chennai.
Prior to embarking on his art director career, Sabu worked as a freelance graphics designer for prominent companies such as Welcomgroup Hotels, the Taj Group of Hotels, and Madura Coats from 1982 to 1988.
In 1988, Sabu began his art director career, and has since then directed over 480 advertisements, 3 teleserials, and 50 feature films in various languages including Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. His impressive portfolio also includes designing several stage shows.
One of his most notable achievements was directing the stage design for the 1996 Miss World beauty pageant. Sabu has also worked as a 2nd unit director in the 1990 film Iyer the Great.
Throughout his illustrious career, Sabu has won numerous awards, including four National Film Awards for Best Art Direction and five Filmfare Awards for Best Art Direction, including those in the south. His work in the 2010 film Enthiran earned him international recognition, cementing his status as one of the most celebrated and expensive art directors in the country.
