Ryu Jun-yeol, a South Korean actor, was born on September 25, 1986. He gained widespread recognition for his breakout role in the television series Reply 1988, which aired from 2015 to 2016.
Prior to his television debut, Ryu studied acting at Suwon University and began his career in short films and independent titles in 2012. His first feature film role was a small part in the Korean Academy of Film Arts title INGtoogi: Battle of Internet Trolls.
Ryu's early success in short films led to a flurry of roles in 2014, including the KAFA film Socialphobia. The youth thriller premiered at the Busan International Film Festival and went on to become a box office hit, earning Ryu numerous accolades, including the KAFA Rising Star Award, the First Brand Awards, and the Max Movie Awards.
In 2015, Ryu made his television debut, landing a small part in The Producers and a main role in Reply 1988. The latter role catapulted him to stardom and earned him multiple awards, including the Paeksang Arts Awards and the Korea Cable TV Awards. He also appeared in the KAFA film The Boys Who Cried Wolf.
The following year, Ryu continued to make waves in the film world, starring in a diverse range of titles, including the youth road drama One Way Trip, the sci-fi drama Sori: Voice from the Heart, the island thriller No Tomorrow, the melodrama Canola, and the noir thriller The King. He also appeared alongside Song Kang-ho in the Gwangju massacre drama A Taxi Driver.
