Rick Alverson, a filmmaker hailing from Richmond, Virginia, born in 1971, has made a significant impact in the film industry with his feature films. His notable work includes Entertainment, which premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and also screened at the Locarno, SXSW, and New Directors / New Films festivals that same year. The film was later released by Magnolia Pictures in 2015.
Prior to Entertainment, Alverson's dramatic feature The Comedy premiered in competition at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and was distributed by Tribeca Film. His debut feature film, New Jerusalem, was co-written and directed by Alverson in 2011, followed by The Builder in 2010.
In addition to his directorial work, Alverson has also ventured into music, directing music videos for a variety of artists, including Sharon Van Etten, Bonny Prince Billy, Benjamin Booker, and Angel Olsen, among others. Furthermore, he has released nine records on Jagjaguwar, with his most recent album with his band Spokane being released in 2007.
