Richard's journey in the performing arts began in the 6th grade, where he discovered that acting helped alleviate a stuttering problem he had been struggling with. Since then, he has honed his craft and made a name for himself on various stages and screens across the United States and Europe.
After graduating from Fordham University at Lincoln Center, Richard sought out opportunities in New York City's experimental theater scene and comedy clubs. His passion for physical comedy led him to tour the country with Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus as a featured clown, where he wore grease paint and entertained audiences with his antics.
However, Richard's desire to explore new creative outlets led him to trade in his clown makeup for a black hood, and he joined Hudson Vagabond Puppets. With this company, he traveled across the country, operating larger-than-life puppets in a style inspired by traditional Japanese Bunraku theater.
Richard's next adventure took him to Europe, where he worked with an Italian circus and eventually co-founded the international performance collective, Misery Loves Company. This innovative group combined dynamic physicality, puppetry, and theatrical investigation to create unique and captivating performances.
While in Europe, Richard appeared in several local and visiting U.S. films and became a regular at the Prague-based action movie factory, North American Pictures. He also remained a fixture on the downtown NYC and regional stages, as well as screens big and small.
Today, Richard is a proud member of both SAG/AFTRA and AEA, and continues to be a versatile and talented performer, always seeking out new challenges and opportunities to showcase his craft.
