Prabhu Deva is a multifaceted Indian artist, renowned for his exceptional skills as a dance choreographer, film director, producer, and actor. With a career spanning twenty-five years, he has showcased his versatility by performing and designing a wide range of dancing styles, earning him two National Film Awards for Best Choreography.
Prabhu Deva's fascination with dance began early in life, inspired by his father, Mugur Sundar, a choreographer for South Indian movies. He took up learning Indian classical dance forms, such as Bharatanatyam, from renowned gurus Dharmaraj and Udupi Lakshminarayanan, as well as Western styles.
Prabhu Deva made his screen debut as a child artist in the 1986 Tamil film Mouna Ragam, playing the role of a boy playing the flute in the song "Panivizhum Iravu". He later appeared as a background dancer in the 1988 Tamil film Agni Natchathiram. His first venture as a choreographer was the Kamal Haasan starrer Vetri Vizha, released in 1989.
The 1990s and early 2000s saw Prabhu Deva take on acting roles in several commercially successful films, including Kadhalan (1994),Minsara Kanavu (1997),and VIP (1997). His critically acclaimed performances in Kaathala Kaathala (1998) and Vanathai Pola (2000) were followed by a decline in his box office value, leading him to appear in supporting roles and low-budget Telugu language films.
Prabhu Deva's fortunes changed with the success of his directorial debut, the 2005 Telugu film Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana. This prompted further offers for him as a director, and he went on to make highly profitable films in Telugu, Hindi, and Tamil languages, including Pokkiri (2007),Wanted (2009),Rowdy Rathore (2012),and Singh is Bling (2015).
