Renowned screenwriter and film director, he began his illustrious career in the film industry as an assistant to acclaimed Chilean director Patricio Guzmán.
In 1972, he ventured into writing and directing his first feature documentary, "Los Puños Frente al Cañón".
Four years later, he fled to Mexico, settling in West Berlin, where he would spend most of his professional career.
During his time in West Berlin, he not only taught film, but also wrote screenplays, specialized in film dramaturgy, and produced documentaries for German television.
In 1986, he was selected for the inaugural Berlin screenplay workshop with his comedy script, "The Children of Mickey Mouse".
Nine years later, his original script, "La Mirada desde el Circo", was chosen for the SOURCES Screenwriting Workshop of the MEDIA-Program of the European Community.
The German adaptation of his comedy, "Los Hijos del Ratón Mickey", premiered in Germany in 1996 under the title "Irren ist Männlich".
After a decade-long absence, he returned to Chile in 1995 and later created the documentary "Chile, la herida Abierta", focusing on Pinochet in London, for the French-German channel ARTE.
In 2001, he wrote and directed the feature film "Taxi para Tres" ("A cab for three"),which garnered immense critical and commercial success for Chilean cinema, earning 30 awards, including the prestigious Golden Shell for best film at the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain.
A decade later, he shot the original feature film "Cirqo", which entered post-production in 2012.
Throughout his illustrious career, he has served as a jury member at esteemed film festivals, including the Guadalajara International Film Festival in Mexico, the Gramado International Film Festival in Brazil, and the Latin American Film Festival in Havana.
As an educator, he has taught at several prominent film schools, including the Film School of the University of Mexico (CUEC),the Free University of Berlin, the Film School of San Antonio de los Baños (EICTV) in Cuba, the Film School of Chile, the University of Santiago de Chile, and the Film and Television School of the University of Chile, where he served as director from 2008 to 2010.
Currently, he teaches courses such as "Script I", "Film Appreciation", "Idea Workshop and Script Development" at ICEI, and is part of the academic staff of the Postgraduate Diploma in Film Screenwriting.
