Necati Şaşmaz, a son of Abdulkadir Şaşmaz, was born in 1971 in Elazığ. Although his primary profession was tourism, Şaşmaz completed his education in Canada. He spent six years in America before returning to his family in 2001, only to be unable to return due to the 9/11 attacks. As a result, he decided not to return to America after his family's concerns and insistence.
Instead, Şaşmaz decided to continue his life in Turkey, opening an insurance agency in Ankara. Not long after, he met with Osman Sınav in Istanbul to discuss a business opportunity. Osman Sınav offered him a role in a production's script team, which Şaşmaz accepted a month later.
The experience was a life-changing event for Şaşmaz, who began working on the Kurtlar Vadisi project. He stated that his personal life had changed completely, saying "I'm only called by my name in Ankara, but in Istanbul, everyone calls me Polat."
