Chernov's extensive coverage of significant global events has garnered widespread recognition. He has reported on the Revolution of Dignity, the War in Donbas, the downing of flight MH17, the Syrian civil war, the Battle of Mosul in Iraq, and the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, including the grueling Siege of Mariupol.
For his remarkable work on the Siege of Mariupol, Chernov received numerous prestigious awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service, the Deutsche Welle Freedom of Speech Award, the Knight International Journalism Awards, the Bayeux Calvados-Normandy Award, the Elijah Parish Lovejoy Award, the Free Media Awards, the CJFE International Press Freedom Award, and the Royal Television Society Television Journalism Awards.
