Michael Patrick McGill was born as the first of two sons to Anne McGill and the late Gerald F. McGill, Jr. His younger brother Patrick was born in 1976. Growing up in the Fox River Valley, Mike attended Appleton East High School, graduating in 1991.
Following high school, Mike enrolled at The University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, where he studied for two years before taking a break from his studies to enlist in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1993. He completed Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
After his military service, Mike transferred to The University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh, graduating in 1995 with a degree in Radio/TV/Film. He went on to join the 432nd Civil Affairs Battalion in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and was part of the first Army Reserve Unit to be activated for Operation Joint Endeavor after the Dayton Peace Accord was signed.
Mike spent January to July 1996 stationed overseas in Durdevik, Bosnia-Herzegovina. Upon his return, he found work in the production department at WLUK-TV 11, the FOX affiliate in Green Bay, Wisconsin. His responsibilities included operating the audio board during newscasts and inserting local commercial breaks between programs.
As a bonus, Mike got to witness the Green Bay Packers' march towards their Super Bowl XXXI victory over the New England Patriots while working at the TV station. In 1998, Mike relocated to Los Angeles, California, where he made his TV program debut with a small role as "Babe Ruth" in a flashback episode of "Touched by an Angel" in 1994.
Today, Mike resides with his wife Amy, their son Jake, and their dog Elvis in the San Fernando Valley, where he continues to pursue his acting career.
