In 1967, Akpinar co-founded the Devekusu Theatre, a pioneering endeavour that would go on to become Turkey's first cabaret theatre, revolutionizing the entertainment landscape in the country. His foray into the world of cinema commenced in 1972, when he appeared in the first of several Ertem Egilmez comedies, a partnership that would yield numerous successful collaborations in the years to come.
As his career progressed, Akpinar developed a lasting screen partnership with the acclaimed actor and director, Zeki Alasya, the duo garnering widespread popularity for their hilarious portrayal of bumbling, lovable characters.
