Mehreen is a Pakistani-American director with a 20-year-long and prolific career, having produced and directed numerous gritty and hard-hitting films and TV series for Pakistan and South Asia, which have garnered her both critical and commercial success.
Throughout her career, Mehreen has also created several narrative shorts that have been showcased internationally in film festivals and on television. Her award-winning short films and TV series include "Daughters of the Late Colonel", "Beauty Parlor", and "Doraha", among others.
In 2008, Mehreen directed her debut feature film, "Ramchand Pakistani", which received the Global Film Initiative Grant and premiered in competition at the Tribeca Film Festival. The film went on to have a successful festival and theatrical run, earning several prestigious awards, including the Fipresci Prize, the Audience Award at the Fribourg Film Festival in Switzerland, and an Honorable Mention at the 13th Annual Satyajit Ray Award at the London Film Festival. In 2010, Mehreen was invited to screen her film at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Mehreen has received numerous accolades for her directorial work and has been a member of the National Board of Film Censors in Karachi and a founding member of the KaraFilm Festival in Karachi, Pakistan, as well as WAR (War Against Rape). She has also served as a juror at the Leeds International Film Festival, the HUM TeleFilm Awards, and the ARY Film Awards.
In addition to her work in film, Mehreen has also been involved with the Maisha Film Lab in Uganda, serving as its Artistic Director in 2011. This non-profit training lab was founded by renowned director Mira Nair.
Currently residing in Brooklyn, New York, Mehreen is set to release her second feature film, "Dobara Phir Se", which was shot in both New York and Karachi, worldwide in November 2016.
