Margaret Field, a former American film actress, was born Margaret Morlan on May 10, 1923, in Houston, Texas. Her discovery by talent scout Milton Lewis for Paramount Pictures marked the beginning of her illustrious career. Following a successful screen test, she was offered an 18-month contract, which she eagerly accepted.
With her newfound opportunities, Margaret attended Pasadena Junior College, where she honed her skills in voice training and acting. Her early roles included appearances in television Westerns such as Wagon Train, The Virginian, and The Range Rider. Her credits also include the science fiction films Captive Women and The Man from Planet X.
Margaret's personal life was just as notable as her professional one. She married Richard Dryden Field, an Army officer, and had two children with him: future actress Sally Field and Richard Field. The couple divorced in 1950, and Margaret later married actor Jock Mahoney, adopting the stage name Maggie Mahoney. Together, they had a daughter named Princess.
As her daughter Sally grew older, Margaret's focus shifted from her acting career to her family. She essentially retired from acting at the age of 13 to devote herself to her loved ones. Throughout her life, Margaret Field left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry, and her legacy continues to be celebrated to this day.
