During the California gold rush, a prospector named Jan Morell and his brother plan to buy land in the Napa Valley. After their cabin is robbed and their wife is killed, Jan vows revenge. He finds out that the killers are part of a gang led by Thomas Ainsworth, a ruthless landowner who opposes California's entry into the Union. Ainsworth's men are stealing lands and killing farmers, and Jan joins a group of farmers ready to fight back.
