M. Caner Alper was born in Izmir, Turkey in 1970, making him the second child of a family of four. From a young age, he demonstrated a passion for creative pursuits, including painting, puppetry, and dancing.
After completing high school at Izmir Turkish College, Alper reluctantly pursued a degree in Industrial Engineering, despite his true interests lying elsewhere. However, he was surprised to find himself graduating with a degree in this field.
Alper's love for theater and cinema began in his childhood, and he continued to nurture this passion throughout his teenage years by performing on stage in middle and high school. He also developed a love for reading and writing, attempting to write short stories, screenplays, and even throwing most of them away.
Before embarking on a career in the textile industry as an engineer, Alper worked in various roles, including as a cashier in restaurants, an animator in holiday resorts, a cabin attendant in airlines, and a subtitle translator for movies. Halfway through his career, he made a significant shift, dedicating himself to reading, writing, and filmmaking.
Throughout his career, Alper has written and co-directed numerous films, including Zenne (2012),Çekmeceler (2015),and Lacrimosa (2020),in collaboration with Mehmet Binay. He has also written a story collection, Bugün Bizde Temizlik Var (2004),a memoir, Temiz Aile Çocuğu (2019),and two plays, Cam Boncuklar (2019) and Senede Bir Gün (2019). Additionally, he has contributed to various magazines and newspapers.
Alper is a proud dog owner, with a furry companion named Çilli, and is hopeful about the future.
