Biography

Lou D'Amato is an American actor born to Frances and Louis D'Amato, with an older sibling, Karen. His father has Italian descent, while his mother has Irish, Scottish, and French ancestry. His paternal great-grandfather emigrated from Italy and settled in Brooklyn, New York, where he opened a bakery shop and raised a family.

Lou is based in New York but is considered a bi-coastal actor, with a residence in Studio City, California, when filming in Los Angeles. He has a diverse background, having worked in local theater, commercials, and background work while holding a full-time job. With the support of his wife, Debbie, Lou left the corporate world of finance to pursue his passion for acting full-time.

Lou began by focusing on developing his "actor's instrument," honing his fundamental skills. He trained at the Aaron Speiser Acting Studio in Los Angeles, HB Studios in New York City, and The Acting Corps in Los Angeles. He also had the opportunity to study under the late Jill Clayburgh at her Masterclass for Film/TV.

For several years, Lou has been a successful actor and is now working with his long-time friend Guile Branco at BrightKnightEntertainment. He considers himself fortunate to be living his dream and takes each day as a gift. His wife, Debbie, is the inspiration behind his move into acting.

Lou has come to realize that acting is the toughest and most demanding career he has ever been in, but he loves every minute of it. Before pursuing acting, Lou was a sports enthusiast, playing football, baseball, boxing, and hockey in high school and college. He even played in a round-robin championship in Toronto in 1998, where his team won the equivalent of the Stanley Cup trophy.

Lou is a great admirer of Clint Eastwood, both in front of and behind the camera. He credits Eastwood's seventies flair for immersing him in film and acting. After watching the movie "Dirty Harry," Lou was sold on the idea of pursuing a career in acting. Today, Lou looks for scripts that embody originality, which he believes is harder to find in modern times.
