Lois Patiño was born in Vigo, Spain in 1983. He pursued a unique combination of studies in Psychology at the Complutense University of Madrid and cinema studies at the TAI School. His education in cinema continued at the New York Film Academy (NYFA) in New York and the Master in Documentary Film at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.
Throughout his educational journey, Lois Patiño had the opportunity to develop courses in videocreation with renowned artists and filmmakers such as Joan Jonas, Donald Kuspit, Pedro Costa, Víctor Erice, José Luis Guerín, and Daniel Canogar.
Lois Patiño's videos and video installations have been showcased in various art centers and institutions, including the Centro Cultura San Martín in Buenos Aires, Casa Encendida in Madrid, CCCB in Barcelona, MARCO in Vigo, and Solar Galeria in Portugal.
His films have been screened at numerous international film festivals, including Locarno, Rotterdam, San Francisco, Ann Arbor, Cinema du Rèel, Rome IFF, Viennale, Jhilava, Media City, Punto de Vista, and Rencontres Internationales París/Berlín/Madrid, which took place at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, and Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin.
Lois Patiño's work has also been featured in specific focuses at various institutions, such as the New York Film Festival (Views from the Avant Garde),Flaherty Seminar at Colgate University, BAFICI in Argentina, and Festival of Cali in Colombia.
He has been invited to showcase his work at prestigious universities, including Harvard's Sensory Ethnography Lab, California College of the Arts, FUC in Buenos Aires, and Instituto Politécnico in Porto.
Lois Patiño's notable works have received awards at prominent film festivals, including Oberhausen IFF in Germany, Clermont-Ferrand in France, and Bucharest Experimental FF. His feature film "Costa da Morte" won the prize for best emerging director at the Locarno IFF and received awards at the Jeonju IFF in South Korea, FICUNAM in Mexico, Festival dei Popoli in Italy, Valdivia IFF in Chile, and Seville European Film Festival in Spain.
Lois Patiño is represented by The New Gallery in Madrid and Vilaseco-Hauser Gallery in A Coruña-Stuttgart, and is also associated with the film producers Zeitun Films in A Coruña.
