Jean-Philippe Auclair was a renowned Canadian freeskiier, hailing from the picturesque town of Sainte-Foy, Quebec. This talented individual played a pivotal role in the launch of the 1080 ski for Salomon in 1998, and later co-founded Armada skis, a pioneering freestyle-only skiing company, alongside fellow freeskier Tanner Hall, in the year 2002.
Auclair's distinct facial hair was a hallmark of his personality, effortlessly transitioning from a majestic goatee in the mid-1990s to a stylish Magnum, P.I.-inspired mustache as the millennium turned. Beyond his impressive skiing skills, Auclair also ventured into the world of film, appearing in numerous ski movies, including the 2012 release of Sherpas Cinema's critically acclaimed All.I.Can.
Tragically, Auclair's life was cut short in a devastating avalanche accident on September 29, 2014, while filming for the webisode series Apogee Skiing on Monte San Lorenzo in Aysen, Chile. He lost his life alongside fellow skier Andreas Fransson. Auclair's final words, known only to his pupil Mehdi Trari, remain a closely guarded secret, with Trari still choosing not to share them with anyone to this day.
