Jonathan Adler is a multifaceted American creative force, known for his exceptional talents as a potter, interior decorator, and author. His remarkable journey began in 1993 when he launched his inaugural ceramic collection at the esteemed Barneys New York.
Five years later, in 1998, Adler expanded his creative horizons by opening his first namesake boutique in the heart of Soho, Manhattan. This marked the beginning of his eponymous home interiors business, which has since grown to encompass 17 stores and a vast global presence.
In 1993, Adler founded Jonathan Adler Enterprises LLC, initially operating as a production potter, crafting his own ceramics for years before venturing into home furnishings. Today, his designs are sold in over 1,000 retailers worldwide, with a product range that spans pots, sofas, and everything in between.
Adler's impressive portfolio also includes his work on the Parker Palm Springs Hotel, which he styled in 2004 and extensively redesigned in 2016. This project saw the installation of a striking seven-foot-tall bronze banana on the main lawn, a testament to Adler's bold and innovative approach to design.
As a respected industry expert, Adler regularly speaks at prominent home interior events and design-centric museums, including IDS, IDS West, KBIS, and the Mint Museum. His charismatic presence has also led to numerous television appearances, including Good Morning America, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and other national programs.
In his personal life, Adler has been married to his partner, Simon Doonan, since September 2008.
