John Lacy is a multifaceted American professional, residing in Los Angeles, who has made a name for himself in the entertainment industry as an actor, director, and writer. Born in Iowa City, his father, Robert Lacy, was a writer who studied at the prestigious Iowa Writer's Workshop under the mentorship of renowned authors Kurt Vonnegut and Richard Yates, alongside fellow students and notable writers, including Andre Dubus, William Harrison, Theodore Weesner, and James Crumley.
The family relocated to Minneapolis after Robert took a position as a speech writer for the late Senator Nick Coleman at the State Capitol. John's mother, Lyn Ellen Lacy, is an accomplished educator and published author who specializes in children's visual literacy. His older brother, Peter Lacy, is an innovator in corporate culture integration, and his older sister, Ruth Grim, is a museum curator in Daytona, Florida.
John's acting career began in 1988, initially appearing in beer commercials and music videos. After extensive training, stage work, and commitment to the Meisner technique, his roles improved significantly, booking several guest starring roles on Miller/Boyett Production situation comedies. His breakthrough role came when he was cast as 'Fector' in Nancy Savoca's anti-war love story Dogfight. He created the critically acclaimed Crime Noir web series The Reveal, which featured over 30 actors from his acting studio, and followed it up with another web series creation, The Adventures of Hollywood & Vine, a screwball comedy depicting the daily struggles of a pair of struggling actor roommates.
His feature film debut, Custody Road, won Best Editing at the Auckland International Film Festival and streamed on Amazon Prime, GooglePlay, and iTunes. His second feature, Rosebud Lane, is scheduled for release in August, 2021.
