John Krokidas is a multifaceted American filmmaker, recognized for his directorial debut, the 2013 biographical drama "Kill Your Darlings". He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater & American Studies from Yale University, where he laid the groundwork for his future endeavors.
Subsequently, he pursued his passion for filmmaking at New York University's Graduate Film Program, where his initial short film, "Shame No More", gained widespread recognition by being showcased at over 70 film festivals. His subsequent short film, "Slo-Mo", premiered at the prestigious Telluride and Sundance film festivals, before being broadcast on HBO, PBS, and the Sundance Channel.
Krokidas co-wrote and directed his inaugural feature, "Kill Your Darlings", a star-studded production featuring Daniel Radcliffe, Ben Foster, Elizabeth Olsen, Dane Dehaan, Jack Huston, Michael C Hall, David Cross, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. The film made its world premiere at Sundance before competing at Toronto and Venice, eventually receiving a theatrical release courtesy of Sony Pictures Classics.
Throughout his career, Krokidas has directed television content for ABC, CBS, and FOX, and has penned screenplays for Universal, Fox 2000, Lionsgate, and Miramax. His upcoming directorial project, "Tunnels", boasts an impressive cast, including Susan Sarandon, Anna Faris, Patrick Wilson, Alicia Silverstone, and Jaeden Martell.
Krokidas has received accolades from various publications, including Variety's "Top Ten Directors To Watch", The Advocate's "Top 40 Under 40", and Out Magazine's Out 100. He serves as a Co-Chair of the DGA's LGBTQ+ Committee and is one of its founding members.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Krokidas has served as a judge and mentor for the Hamptons International Film Festival, the Nantucket Film Festival's Screenwriter's Colony, Outfest's Screenwriters Lab, and has taught filmmaking at the University of Southern California, New York University, the New School, and Yale University.
