Jake Kennedy is a multifaceted individual who wears various hats with ease, including that of a teacher, editor, filmmaker, and experimental writer.
Originally hailing from Streetsville, Ontario, Kennedy has made Kelowna, British Columbia, his home, situated in the heart of Canada's Okanagan region. He is a valued instructor at Okanagan College, where he teaches English literature and creative writing courses, leaving a lasting impression on his students.
Kennedy's literary endeavors have been met with critical acclaim, as evidenced by his first book, The Lateral, which won the prestigious Robert Kroetsch Award for Innovative Poetry from Montreal's Snare Books. His second collection of poetry, Apollinaire's Speech to the War Medic, was published by BookThug, which also released his chapbook, Hazard, winner of the bpNichol award.
In addition to his solo work, Kennedy has co-edited an anthology of graphic poetry, Boredom Fighters, alongside Paola Poletto. Furthermore, he has collaborated with his best friend, Kevin McPherson Eckhoff, on a series of car interviews with prominent Canadian and American poets, including Bhanu Kapil and Margaret Atwood, as part of their Silver Cars Sessions, which delve into the realm of cultural obscurity.
Currently, Kennedy and Eckhoff are curating a community-written novel, Death Valley, a project that embodies their creative vision and passion for storytelling.
