Carl Fredrik von Gertten was a multifaceted Swedish individual, exceling in both the realms of journalism and filmmaking.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Gertten's journalistic endeavors took him across the globe, traversing continents such as Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Europe, leaving an indelible mark on the world of journalism.
In 1995, Gertten's literary pursuits culminated in the publication of his travel book, "Ung man söker världen" (Young Man Looking for the World),under the esteemed publishing house, Gong Gong förlag.
Gertten's journalistic contributions were far-reaching, with his work appearing in prominent newspapers such as Arbetet, until its closure in 2000, and Kvällsposten, from 2001 to 2003.
In addition to his print journalism, Gertten also ventured into television production, helming documentaries and entertainment shows for Swedish television networks, including SVT, TV 4, and TV 3.
One of his most notable projects was the documentary "Bananas!", which premiered in the United States in 2009. The film explored the contentious relationship between Dole Food Company and Nicaraguan banana plantation workers, who alleged that the pesticide DBCP, used by Dole, had caused sterility cases.
In response to Dole's defamation lawsuit, Gertten's production company stood firm, ultimately emerging victorious in the court's ruling. This experience served as the catalyst for his 2011 documentary, "Big Boys Gone Bananas!", which chronicled the legal battle and its aftermath.
