Eric Millegan was born on August 25, 1974, in Hackettstown, New Jersey. He spent his childhood in Springfield, Oregon, where he developed a passion for the performing arts.
At the tender age of 7, Millegan began his musical theatre career with the Eugene Opera, starring in the 1981 production of Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors. This marked the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship with the company, as he went on to appear in several other productions, including Madame Butterfly, La Bohème, Carmen, and Hansel and Gretel.
As he grew older, Millegan's talents took him to the bright lights of Broadway, where he starred in the 2000 production of Jesus Christ Superstar. He also appeared in the world premiere of Tom Jones and Joseph Thalken's Harold & Maude: The Musical at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey, in January 2005, alongside Estelle Parsons as Maude.
In 2006, Millegan returned to his roots in Eugene, Oregon, to play the role of Frederic in Eugene Opera's production of The Pirates of Penzance.
In addition to his acting career, Millegan has also been open about his personal struggles, including his experiences living with rapid-cycling bipolar disorder. In August 2009, he released a video on YouTube, in which he shared his story and came out about his mental health.
Throughout his career, Millegan has been an advocate for mental health awareness and has used his platform to raise awareness and reduce stigma around mental illness.
In his personal life, Millegan is openly gay, and has been out since before his casting in the hit TV series Bones, in which he played the role of Dr. Zack Addy.
