Biography

Giampiero Anelli, better known as Drupi, is an Italian rock singer born on August 10, 1947. Before pursuing a career in music, Drupi worked as a plumber and enjoyed fishing as a hobby. He started his musical journey as the lead singer of the band Le Calamite, also known as The Magnets.

Noticed by songwriters Luigi Albertelli and Enrico Riccardi, Drupi entered the 1973 Sanremo Music Festival competition with the song "Vado via". Although the song finished in last place, it gained significant international recognition and marked the beginning of his solo career. "Vado via" was recorded on A & M Records and reached number 17 on the UK chart in January 1974, making it one of the few non-English songs to enter the UK charts.

Drupi's popularity in Italy grew in 1974 with the song "Piccola e fragile", which topped the Italian hit parade. As a singer with a rhythm and blues background, his music often falls under the genres of pop and soft rock.

In 1975, Drupi won the Festivalbar with the song "Due". He has returned to the Sanremo Music Festival on multiple occasions, achieving third place in 1982 with the song "Soli".

Drupi's stage name is a nod to the Tex Avery character Droopy. Since 2010, he has resided in Austria. Despite his long career, Drupi remains closely associated with his pop and soft rock hits.
