Denise Georgette Gordy is a remarkable individual, being the daughter of George and Rosemary Gordy, and a sister to Patrice and George Gordy, Jr., among others. Notably, she is also the niece of Berry Gordy, the renowned founder of Motown, and the sister of Anna Gordy Gaye.
Throughout her career, Gordy has made numerous television and theatrical appearances, starting in 1972 with a memorable role as a dancer in the nightclub chorus of Lady Sings the Blues. Her impressive filmography also includes Black Fist in 1974 and Toy Soldiers in 1991. Additionally, Gordy contributed vocals to the soundtrack album for Black Fist, originally titled Bogard, and recorded the song "Let's Do It Again" for the same movie.
In her personal life, Gordy was married to actor Richard Lawson from December 31, 1978 until 1989, with whom she shares a talented daughter, actress Bianca Lawson. Interestingly, Gordy is also the biological mother of Marvin Gaye III, born on November 17, 1965, when she was just 16 years old. At the time, Marvin Gaye, the famous singer, was 26 years old and married to Gordy's aunt Anna, who was unable to conceive. As a result, Gordy agreed to give birth to the child, and shortly after his birth, Anna adopted him.
