Christopher Gurr is a multifaceted American actor and director, renowned for his extensive repertoire of roles on Broadway and in theaters across the United States, with a few notable appearances in Canada.
Born in the Deep South, Gurr's formative years were shaped by his education in the Midwest, his growth in California, and his maturation in the Appalachian mountains before making his home in New York City.
Gurr has had a storied career, starring as Bustopher Jones and Gus in the Broadway revival of Cats at the Neil Simon Theatre, and making his Broadway debut as Senator Strom Thurmond opposite Bryan Cranston's LBJ in the Tony Award-winning play, All The Way.
He has also appeared on Broadway as a villainous fop, a hard-nosed sea captain, a factory owner, and his fastidious foreman, as well as a very strange man in a yellow suit in Tuck Everlasting.
Gurr has been featured in numerous Off-Broadway and regional productions, including Marie, Dancing Still at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre, the world premiere of The Sting opposite Harry Connick, Jr. at The Paper Mill Playhouse, Titanic and Oklahoma! at Pittsburgh's Civic Light Opera, and The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui at Classic Stage Company in New York City opposite Raúl Esparza.
Gurr's commercial theatre debut was in the first national tour of the Tony Award-winning musical, Monty Python's Spamalot, where he played various roles, including Mrs. Galahad and Sir Bedevere, and later toured the country as King Arthur.
He has also appeared in other national tours, including the Tony Award-winning musical, Memphis, playing seven different types of mean white cracker.
Gurr's extensive list of roles includes Hitler, Heisenberg, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, Uncle Ernie, Ali Hakim, Aldolpho, Geoffrey, and Rutledge.
As a director, Gurr has helmed productions of Nine, Camelot, Heartbreak House, Into The Woods, Die Fledermaus, Billy Bishop Goes To War, Wesley Middleton's Tomato Plant Girl, James Still's Meet Me Incognito, the world premiere of José Cruz Gonzáles' Earth Songs, and Guys & Dolls: In Concert with Jeff Tyzik and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
Gurr has served as artistic associate with Geva Theatre Center in Rochester, NY, The Theatre Building in Chicago, and Metro Theater Company in St. Louis, and has taught with and designed curriculum for the internationally recognized education department of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
He graduated from and has served as guest director and faculty member at Webster University's Conservatory of Theatre & Dance in St. Louis.
