Choi Moo-ryong, a South Korean actor, producer, and director, is renowned for being the father of the accomplished actor, Choi Min-soo. During the 1960s, Choi was one of the most sought-after actors in the industry, alongside the likes of Shin Young-kyun and Kim Jin-kyu. His dashing good looks and masculine charm earned him widespread popularity.
However, Choi's personal life was marked by drama and turmoil, often mirroring the plots of the films he starred in. In 1952, he married Kang Hyo-shil, a fellow actress and the daughter of the illustrious actress Jeon Ok, affectionately known as the "Queen of Tears," and singer Gang Hong-sik. Together, they had one son and four daughters, including the accomplished actor, Choi Min-soo.
Tragedy struck when Choi embarked on an affair with the renowned actress Kim Ji-mee, leading to his divorce from Kang in 1962. Choi subsequently married Kim Ji-mee, but his financial woes, stemming from the failure of his film production company, forced him to make the heart-wrenching decision to divorce her once more in 1969.
As the news of his divorce spread, the poignant phrase "Because I love you, I have to part from her" resonated with the public, a testament to the enduring fascination with Choi's tumultuous personal life.
